本草木塔は、文化13年（1816）の建立で、県道綱木―西米沢停車場線に面した原野に飯豊山の石塔とともに並立している。本来は、道を挟んで対面側に鎮座していたが、県道改修工事の際に移設した。
碑文の上部には阿閦如来を意味する種子「ウン」を置き、その下方に「草木供養塔」、向かって右側に「文化13年」、左側に「4月7日」と刻まれている。また、現在は確認できないが、裏面に「入簗沢村」の銘があったという。
本塔は花崗岩製のため、風化が進んでおり、判読が困難になってきている。簗沢地区では数少ない草木塔であり、飯豊山信仰との関わりが窺われる貴重な存在である。
No.7 Itokuro SOMOKUTO (AD 1816)
This SOMOKUTO was erected in AD 1816.
It stands on open land facing the Tsunakigi–Nishi-Yonezawa Station Prefectural Road, together with a stone monument dedicated to Mount Iide. Originally, it stood on the opposite side of the road but was relocated during prefectural road improvement work.
At the top of the inscription is carved the Sanskrit seed syllable “Un,” symbolizing Akshobhya Buddha. Below it is engraved “SOMOKUKUYOTO.”
On the right side is inscribed “1816,” and on the left side is inscribed “April 7.” It is also said that the reverse side once bore the inscription “Iriyanazawa Village,” although this can no longer be confirmed.
Because this monument is made of granite, weathering has progressed over time, making parts of the inscription increasingly difficult to read.
It is one of the few SOMOKUTO in the Yanazawa area and is therefore a valuable example reflecting connections with Mount Iide worship.
