本草木塔は、享和元年（1801）の建立であるが、平成5年3月に大樽川赤芝地区右岸の河川護岸工事中に川底から偶然発見され、同年8月にこの龍性院境内へと安置されたものである。
碑文は、自然石の中央に「草木供養塔」、向かって右側に「享和元酉年」、左側に「8月15日」と刻まれている。長年川底にあったにも関わらず、碑文は明瞭であり、摩耗もしていない。
龍性院の境内には、湯殿山をはじめ多くの石塔が建立されているが、草木塔とともに毎年住職や地域住民らによって供養祭が催されており、この地域の祟高な信仰心を窺うことができる。
No.5 Akashiba SOMOKUTO (AD 1801)
This SOMOKUTO was erected in AD 1801.
In March AD 1993, it was accidentally discovered on the riverbed during riverbank protection work on the right bank of the Ōtaru River in the Akashiba area. In August of the same year, it was relocated and enshrined within the grounds of Ryūshō-in Temple.
At the center of the natural stone is engraved “SOMOKUKUYOTO.” On the right side is inscribed “1801, Year of the Rooster,” and on the left side is inscribed “August 15.”
Although the monument had remained on the riverbed for many years, the inscription remains clear and shows almost no signs of abrasion or damage.
Within the grounds of Ryūshō-in Temple, many stone monuments, including those dedicated to Mount Yudono, have been erected. Together with this SOMOKUTO, memorial services are held every year by the resident priest and local community members.
These practices reflect the strong and sincere religious devotion of the people in this area.
