15.小野川の草木塔

米沢市指定有形民俗文化財（平成二十四年三月二十九日　指定）

　本草木塔は、弘化2年（1845）の建立で、旧向羽黒堂集落にあったものを甲子大黒天本山宝珠寺の小町山公園整備に合せて移転建立したとされ、自然散策道から少し脇道に逸れた松林の中に立っている。

　碑文は、中央に「草木供羪塔」とあり、向かって右側面に「弘化二年巳天」と刻まれているが、建立者や建立事由などは判然としない。

　玉石を集積して台座としており、自然豊かな公園内にあることで草木塔に相応しく、素朴な中にも緑に映えて印象深い。本塔は江戸時代に建立された草木塔では最も小規模なものであり、その存在意義が注目される。

No.15 Onogawa SOMOKUTO (AD 1845)

This SOMOKUTO was erected in AD 1845 and originally stood in the former Mukaihagurodō settlement. It was relocated during the development of Komachiyama Park by Hōju-ji Temple and now stands in a pine grove slightly off the nature trail.

At the center is engraved “SOMOKUKUYOTO,” and on the right side “1845, Year of the Snake.” The builders and purpose of construction are unknown.

Rounded stones are piled to form the base, harmonizing with the natural environment.

This is the smallest known SOMOKUTO from the Edo period and is notable for its simple and modest appearance.
