本草木塔は、文政9年（1826）の建立で、大字口田沢地内の国道121号線沿いの東泉寺山墓地（田澤寺管理）に複数の石塔とともに存在する。道路改修により移設建立されたという。
碑文は、上部に隙間をもたせて「草木塔」とあり、向かって右側面に「文政九丙戌歳」、左側面に「8月15日」、その下方に「町方施主」とある。建立年月日と建立者が明記されているが、「町方」については地元の下ノ町をさしているのか城下町をさすのか判然としない。
また、草木塔と並列する石塔は、いずれも凝灰岩の台座を有しており、草木塔は「円」、観世音は「菱」、三十三度「三角」、湯殿山は「方形」となっており、何らかの意図が感じられるとともに石塔同士の関連性が窺われて興味深い。
No.12 Shimonomachi SOMOKUTO (AD 1826)
This SOMOKUTO was erected in AD 1826 and stands together with several other stone monuments in Tōsenji-yama Cemetery along National Route 121 in the Kuchitazawa area.
It is said to have been relocated and rebuilt during road improvement projects.
At the upper part of the stone, leaving a small space, is engraved “SOMOKUTO.”
On the right side is inscribed “1826, Year of the Dog,” on the left side “August 15,” and below them “Town Sponsors.” These inscriptions record the date of construction and the builders.
However, it remains unclear whether “Town” refers to the local Shimo-no-chō district or to the castle town.
The neighboring stone monuments all have bases made of tuff. Each base has a different shape, including circular, diamond, triangular, and square forms.
These different shapes appear to reflect intentional design and reveal meaningful relationships among the monuments.
